Insights from the 2026 report

Real estate is now more committed to digitisation than ever, with 79% planning to increase investments. Execution and a growing digital skills gap are main barriers.
This highlights the need to shift leadership focus from buying and choosing systems to change management, skills development – and structured implementation.

Concern about the green transition dropped significantly from 60% in 2025 to 29% in 2026.
In the same period, ESG efforts in many organisations have shifted from strategy to operations. Sustainability is now more often embedded in processes, reporting and compliance. The use of insights from ESG reporting are embedded across the business.
Today, 72 % actively work with sustainability initiatives, and almost half adjust operational practices based on insights from their ESG reporting.

The digital skills gap is now considered the main barrier on both sides of the market. A lack of digital skills within the organisation is now seen as the main challenge in the real estate sector, increasing significantly from 29 % in 2025 to 43 % in 2026.

The share placing themselves as a ‘digital player’ on the digital maturity ladder declined from 45 % in 2025 to 32 % in 2026. This may reflect a better understanding of how complex digital transformation really is and suggests that respondents have become more realistic and mature in how they assess their own capabilities, rather than indicating an actual decline in digital maturity.
